The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is an internationally accepted qualification for entry into higher education and is globally recognised by many universities. Students develop their unique individual strengths and passions through the range of opportunities provided and supported through their journey in the IBDP.

  • How many years is the programme?

IBDP is a 2-year educational programme

  • Which age groups and years is it for?

IBDP is primarily created for students aged 16-19 years

  • Which subjects are offered?

Students can choose from 6 IBDP subject groups and course offerings:

  • Studies in Language and Literature
  • Language Acquisition
  • Individuals and Societies
  • Experimental Sciences
  • Mathematics
  • The Arts

Students have to choose three subjects at ‘Higher Level’ (HL) and three subjects at ‘Standard Level’ (SL). They must take one subject each from Groups 1 to 5. The sixth subject can be taken from either Group 3, 4 or 6. They are allowed to take 4 HL and 2 SL subjects too if they wish to.
In addition to the 6 subjects, students also do Extended Essays (EE), Internal Assessments (IA), Labs, study the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and have to participate in Creativity, Action and Service programs (CAS).

  • What is the grading system and how are the students assessed?

IB subjects are graded on a 1- 7 scale with 7 being the highest score. Students receive grades for each course. The diploma is granted to students with at least 24 points subject to certain minimum levels of performance and maximum points that can be awarded is the full score of 45 with 42 points generated across the 6 subjects and 3 bonus points derived from Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay.

IBDP uses both internal and external assessment. Examinations form the core of assessment for most subject courses due to the high levels of equitableness and reliability. DP assessment encourages a global outlook and intercultural skills in addition to academic skills.
