SAT

  • Introduction

The SAT is a standardized entrance exam taken to assess students’ readiness for admissions in colleges and universities in the United States mainly. It is a 3-hour long multiple choice paper based test, developed and administered by the College Board.

  • How many years is the programme?

There is no specific time frame to prepare for SAT exams, usually students start writing the SAT from Grade 10 onwards.

  • What age groups and years is it for?

The exam is usually taken by students around the age of 17 to 18

  • Which subjects are offered?

The SAT is assessed in 4 different areas:

  • Reading
  • Writing and Language
  • Mathematics
  • Essay (Optional)

The SAT also features an optional Essay component, which is mandatory at some colleges. Questions throughout the assessments focus on skills that matter most for college readiness and success.

  • What is the grading system and how are the students assessed?

Each section of the SAT is scored on a 200 to 800 point scale. The total SAT score is the sum of all section scores. The highest possible SAT score is 1600. If a student takes the Essay, they will receive a separate score.

Written examinations taken are the main form of assessment. Students will be graded out of 1600 and their SAT scores will determine the college or university they can apply to. Different colleges and universities have different SAT score requirements.
