NAPLAN

  • Introduction

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a series of tests focused on basic skills that are administered annually to Australian students. These standardised tests assess students’ reading, writing, language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy and are administered by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA). Parents are able to decide whether their children take the test or not. The vast majority of students in grades 3, 5, 7, 9 participate.

  • How many years is the program?

It is a test taken periodically by students in grade 3, 5, 7, 9.

  • What age groups and years is it for?

As the test is taken by a student 4 times in different grades the age range is 7-14.

  • Which subjects are offered?

It tests students’ language and numeracy skills. Hence English and Mathematics are the core subjects.

  • What is the grading system and how are the students assessed?

The grading scheme is divided into 10 bands with band 1 being the lowest and 10 the highest

Every band represents a difficulty level hence every grade is tested for a different band range and has a different minimum band score requirement.

Grade 3 students are tested for a difficulty level ranging from band 1 to 6 with the national minimum standard being band 2 for them. Grade 5 is tested for bands 3 to 8 with 4 being the minimum standard required. Grade 7 students are tested for bands 4 to 9 with 5 being the minimum standard while grade 9 students are tested for bands 5 – 10 with 6 as the minimum standard.

All students in these year levels participate in tests in reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

  • Key features and highlights of the curriculum

It functions as a school improvement tool as it measures the basic numeracy and literacy skills of the class collectively as well as a student’s level personally. This makes it easier for children with learning disabilities or special needs to get the assistance they require.

This support provided to them will in turn increase the school’s overall ranking. Moreover, as every child is also evaluated personally, they in turn become aware of the learning areas they need to give special attention to as well.

  • How do we help students?

Uplift academy offers result focused, online tuition by teachers who have the relevant experience and expertise in International and Indian curriculums. Private tutoring is the most effective way for students to learn.

Throughout these online courses, teachers not only explain the concept but also provide an array of practice tests, conduct oral quizzes for English and Maths and provide guidance in solving past papers.
As English and Mathematics are the core subjects for NAPLAN, during online Math tutoring or online English classes, your child will have the instructor’s undivided attention, and can work at a pace that is appropriate for his or her needs.

With their extensive expertise and training, our teachers provide unique and personalized resources, assistance with school homework and extra tasks as well. We recognize that all learners do not learn the same way or have the same strengths, so we use pedagogy which is customised to the child’s strengths and learning style. Our aim is to conduct sessions for online education which are interactive and engaging.
